Achievement:
GAIYA’s feasibility study report determined that there an urgent need
to recruit health professional volunteers, train and place them in these
rural community health facilities where there was gross understaffing of
personnel. GAIYA has carried out the following activities to date:
- 261 volunteers have been recruited in the programme and received a
volunteers training courses trained
- GAIYA developed a volunteer management systems manual which it shares with its partners
- 141 health professional volunteers are deployed and are working in 14 rural primary health centres
- 26 volunteers are working with ICT based organisations
- GAIYAs woman volunteer takes the award of first African woman to climb
a 200 metre tall Telecommunication mast to install telecommunication
equipment
- Volunteers have provided home based care to over 100 PLWHAs and their families
- Volunteers have conducted public community HIV and AIDs talk and over 200 youths tested for HIV
- GAIYA designed and developed Fantsuam Foundations HIV and AIDS work place policy. Fantsuam Foundation is the first organisation in Nigeria to implement a Policy on HIV and AIDS in the work place
