Background:
FF is a Rural based Non Governmental organisation (NGO) found in
Kafancan district, Kaduna state that is working with local communities to fight
poverty and disadvantage through integrated development programs.
To achieve its goals, Fantsuam Foundation established GAIYA National
Volunteer Program as one of its integrated development Programs on
Secure livelihoods.
In the year 2000, John Dada, the Programs Director Fantsuam Foundation
together with other development minded Nigerians initiated the idea
of a community oriented program that would bring together
the people Nigeria, particularly those in Southern Kaduna to engage in
development processes that would bring change in the lives of
the local communities. Consequently a National Volunteer
Program was born and named GAIYA, a HAUSA word-meaning gift of labour.
The aims were to re-enforce and enhance the traditionally inherent
volunteerism that has existed since time immemorial, unknowingly to
our fore fathers and even to some of the present generation.
GAIYA kicked started its programmatic activities in 2006
